Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

In the pupil’s final year of primary school, they will enjoy new learning, work hard and experience new opportunities as they prepare for the next step in their school journey. In maths and English lessons, year 6 pupils will build on their prior learning from previous year groups to develop their knowledge and skills further. In the summer term, year 6 will sit their end of Key Stage Two SATs, which is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their hard work and learning from the past four years. Alongside this, pupils will enjoy fun and exciting lessons from across the rest of the curriculum. They will take part in practical investigations in science,  learn about the Ancient Maya and WW2 in history and explore South America in geography. They will also enjoy a range of creative activities such as designing and making an iPad cover in DT, taking part in practical music lessons, learn basic French, and develop their art skills across a range of mediums in art. Pupils will also take part in weekly PE and computing lessons from specialist teachers. We have high expectations of all pupils in year 6 and expect everyone to read 5 times a week and learn their weekly spellings. In the run up to SATs, weekly homework will be sent home and revision after school clubs will be offered. This is to give every child the best opportunity to achieve their full potential at the end of primary school. We ask that our year 6 pupils try their very best throughout the year and demonstrate our school values of resilience, quality, courage, happiness and responsibility. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
