Attendance

Rewards for Full Attendance

Attending  school is an important part of a child’s development. Our school is a great place to come and learn! Our aim is for the whole school to have an attendance rate of 96% or above each week. To celebrate our achievements, we have a special assembly each week, where we award the class with the best attendance, a certificate. The class from FS/KS1 and KS2 with the best overall attendance in a year gets the opportunity to visit ‘The Billingham South Ice cream Parlour’

YUM YUM!

What if my child cannot attend school?

If your child cannot attend school for any reason, you should phone the school office by 9:30am (01642 894003).

If you don’t phone the school office, we will try and contact you. If we don’t know why your child is absent, it will be marked as unauthorised absence.

If your child is late for school (after 9:10am), they will be marked absent for that school session (lateness after the register closes counts as absence).

If a child’s attendance falls below 95%, you will receive official notification from the school in the form of a letter.

If a child’s attendance falls below 90%, this counts as persistent absence and a number of measures may follow including: home visits, action taken by the school attendance officer, attendance review meetings, fines and prosecutions.

We are here to help you with attendance difficulties. If you are having problems getting your child to school you should work with us a soon as possible by contacting the school office initially.

Can my child go on holiday in term time?

Amendments to the regulations with regard to School Attendance On 1st September 2013 the Department for Education made amendments to regulations with regard to school attendance. Previously Head Teachers were allowed to grant leave of absence during term time of up to 10 days for family holidays, however this is no longer the case. Under the new regulations Head Teachers are no longer allowed to authorise leave of absence for family holidays, during term time & taking unauthorised holidays may result in parents receiving a fine from the Local Authority. Any leave of absence requests can only be authorised by the Head Teacher in exceptional circumstances.
